Hadrian's Wall Challenge

Hadrian's Wall Challenge

On the weekend of the 1st and 2nd of October 2011 Veterans In Action took a group of 16 veterans for a weekend challenge of walking along Hadrian's Wall.

Those who took part on this weekend challenge came to VIA through Combat Stress Community Outreach Centres in the North West. Other veterans who took part on the walk were involved part as a part of the ALIVE Program.

As an additional challenge two veterans, David Davies (ex REME) and Daz Hennessy (ex RM) did their own personal challenge where they will set off at the same time as the others and will walk the 84 mile length of the wall in 24 hours. The attempt was stopped by the VIA Team due to bad light and conditions for safety reason at the 42 mile point. Both Dave and Daz were doing well but a decision was made so prevent injury. They were on schedule to complete the challenge and wanted to continue but it was felt the right decion was made. The challenge will be done again at a later date.

Dave and Daz have taken part on several challenges with VIA and their own personal challenges and lin 2010 both walked 1200 miles on the VIA walk from John O'Groats to Land's End and also from Land's End to Dover. Dave then planned and took part on the Hadrian's Wall in September 2010 where he led a team of 22 along the wall over a weekend whilst at the same time Daz went on and expedition to the Himalyas with Global Adventure Plus (GAP).

As a personal challenge they both took on the challenge of the National 3 Peaks which they achieved in under 24hours.
