THREE: HADRIAN'S WALL
Hadrian's Wall
Hadrian's Wall is the third in the series and is an 84 mile walk that follows the route of the wall where it still exists and forms the vertical of the English and Northern Irish Flag.

This is the shortest walk in the whole series of walks and is used as an introduction to VIA for veterans seeking help and it is also an walk where those who have taken part on previous walks become Team Leaders. This walk is done over a weekend with 3 teams taking part and the route split into three 14 mile sections covering 42 miles each day.

The first day of the walk starts at Bowness on Solway and finishes at Housesteads Fort (Vercovicivm) and for the first part of the walk the wall follows roads and pathways passing through Carlisle and follows the River Eden. The morning walk is fairly easy walking up to Walton where all the teams meet for lunch.

The afternoon walk from Walton through to Housesteads Fort (Vercovicivm) is a strenuous walk alongside the wall and is the best part of the walk with some great views across the countryside.

The second day is from Housteads Fort (Vercovicivm) to Wallsend Fort in Newcastle with the first part being strenuous to easy along the wall before levelling off to the end of the wall at Wallsend Fort.
